Harsimrat Kaur Badal, minister of food processing industries, Government of India, has appealed to all the firms in the food processing industry to come to the aid of the victims of the flood that have ravaged Kerala by generously donating processed food products.
Stating that thousands of people in the southern state had been rendered homeless, she added that there was an urgent requirement for processed foods and that the ministry of food processing industries (MoFPI) had nominated two officers to coordinate these relief efforts.
Badal directed the industries to contact Parag Gupta, joint secretary, and Atyanand, deputy secretary, to make the desired donations, and informed that upon her request, ITC and Britannia had already delivered three lakh packets of biscuits to the Government of Kerala.
She added that the packets were delivered to officials in Thiruvananthapuram, Kochi, and Mallapuram for further distribution to those affected. We will make efforts to ensure that more donations coming to us following this appeal are dispatched to Kerala at the earliest, Badal said.
